Linen Care

Linen Care

Linen fibre is the strongest natural fibre and its strength even increases when wet. Pure linen fabrics wash very well and regular laundering brings out the lovely texture and supple feel. In fact
linen is getting better with use and age and for these reasons it makes a perfect gift!

Washing Linen

Always use soap or mild detergent and wash in plenty of water. Select a gentle wash at 40C for coloured linen, white linen can be washed at 60C. Chose a moderate spin cycle. Rinse linen items
thoroughly in plenty of water to remove all residues and prevent the formation of age spots due to the oxidation effect.

Drying Linen

Linen loves to be air dried on a washing line and this results in the relaxed crinkled finish of the fabric which can be kept just that way without ironing.
Short tumble drying on low heat is also possible.
Always remember to dry linen items only lightly and do not overdry the fabric. Linen fibre is hollow and dries naturaly very fast. When overdried linen becomes stiff and it takes several hours to
recover its natural moisture and full flexibility.

Ironing Linen

It is a matter of personal preference whether to use an iron or not. Soft crinkled linen bedding just adds charm to bedroom while crispy smart table linen brings everyday luxury to a dining
setting. If you do use an iron a powerful steam one works the best. Always iron linens while still slightly damp after washing. Choose a temperature setting compatible with the fabric weight.
Pure linen can withstand the highest temperature setting on your iron but test on hidden part first. It is best to iron linen on the wrong side first, then again on the front side to bring out the
fabric sheen. Finish ironing before the linen is fully dry, hang items or fold and leave in airy place to fully dry naturally.

For easier ironing it is possible to store linen in a plastic bag in the refrigerator or freezer from 6 to 24 hours before ironing.

Shrinking

All our linens have been prewashed in the production process, but can still shrink up to 4 % after first wash. This difference has been taken into account in sizing fitted products, for example
bedding.

Stains

Try do deal with stains immediately and wash the article soon afterwards.
Use only oxygen type bleaches for white linen laundering as chlorine can damage the natural fibre. Avoid bleach completely when washing coloured linens as it can cause discolouration. Use only
bleach free detergents, never use any optical brightening agents as they are particularly damaging to natural linens and are often hidden in 'stain busting' treatments.
For a natural treatment spread your linens outside on dry summer day and leave the sun to do the work.
